When choosing what kind of gate design/type you require, there are a few important factors to consider:
There is a selection of different gate types available which should offer a solution for most entrance requirements otherwise bespoke gates such as round the corning and folding gates can be designed and created to ensure there’s a product to suit.
The most common types of gates are:
Swing gates, these open inwards and can be configured as a single or double leaf design. If space is at a premium, meaning that a parking space will be limited for instance then you may want to consider a sliding or Bi-Fold speed gate instead.
Sliding gates, in order to have a sliding gate installed, you need to have the equivalent space, the width of your gate to the side of your entrance for the gate to slide back against when open. Traditional sliding gates run on a ground track which is sunk into the ground along the opening and run off area with the gate running on sets of carriage wheels.
Alternatively, to traditional sliding gates, if you do not want to undertake groundworks across your entrance to lay tracking, you could consider using a cantilever system. This suspended way of operating the gate makes for a cleaner looking install and operates virtually silently. These can also accommodate widths of up to 12 meters and can be increased to up to 24 meters using a twin set of cantilever gates.
Another popular gate type is a Bi-Fold speed gate, these gates like traditional swing gates can be configured in a single or double leaf configuration, but the difference with these gates is each leaf folds in the centre taking up much less room during the swing process and hence can be used in much tighter spaces where swing or sliding gates cannot be accommodated.

The operator is the motorised element that controls the physical movement of the gate either directly or indirectly. The operator usually controls both the opening and closing movement of the gate and is regulated with variable pressure adjustment to suit each installation. Different operators lock open and/or closed. They can lock in both positions or be non-locking in both positions.
Different speeds of operation are available together with standard and non-standard sizes for varied applications. Operators can be visible above ground or concealed underground with manual overrides fitted. The direction of opening and the amount or degree of travel together with the weight of gate and probable wind resistance will also determine the type of operator best suited for each application.
The usage cycle and potential for abuse from natural or man-made conditions will once again suggest which operator is recommended.

Where the use of conventional swing gate is not feasible due to space restrictions or other reasons, the EA Cantilevered Sliding Gate by EA Group is an ideal solution with either manual or automatic configurations available.
The cantilever design means that the gate is supported from one end as it opens and closes, so there is no need for a track to be fitted across the entrance. With “no track required” installed across the gate opening, a single leaf cantilever gate can span widths of up to twelve meters and be installed on uneven ground, over block-paving, grass, gravel or even water.
The gate glides on two sets of support/guide rollers, fixed to a concrete foundation, hidden within the main lower beam extrusion protecting them from the elements ensuring a reliable, smooth and virtually silent operation.
The standard infill can be replaced by a variety of infill options including D or W profile palisade pales, timber panels, solid sheeting, 358 Securimesh as examples to integrate perfectly with all fence types and environments.
The EA Automatic Cantilever Sliding Gate complies with BS EN 12453 (the current legislation ALL automated gates must comply with). We fit as standard a number of safety devices. The gate portal is fitted with dual height photocells and six category three monitored live safety edges.
The gate is controlled by a purpose made controller, single phase supply, via an inverter-controlled output to a 3-phase motor. This can be configured very easily for all the standard program modes including no passage time outs & free exit and entry loops to name a few.
As standard the control panel can accommodate pedestrian open signals, airlock systems and much more. The gate’s movement is controlled via a rack & pinion system monitored by an encoder. This allows for a precise and controlled operation that is robust and dependable.

The EA Bi-Folding trackless speed gates typically open at more than twice the speed of a traditional swing gate or sliding gate of the same size which ensures a fast throughput of traffic whilst maintaining security of the site.
Our Bi-Folding speed gate utilises a PLC controlled, inverter driven single phase power, supplying a 3-phase motor, worm and wheel gearbox with a direct-drive shaft connected to the gate leaf, which ensures a smooth and positive movement.
