Biometrics - Smart Security Management Solutions

Biometrics

EA-Group have always been at the forefront in access control systems, delivering the very latest secure  technology for many different applications. With the increasing demand for biometric solutions, we are pleased to offer our clients the Nedap AEOS system.

The Nedap AEOS system provides a high level of integration with biometric systems and also a user platform for enrolment and verification of the biometric parameters. Integration in AEOS means that all advantages of AEOS with respect to storage and backup of data and multi site functionality are also available for the biometric ID.

Smart Security Solutions

AEOS solutions have been designed to integrate all forms of identification into a single security management system. Within the same system, Nedap hands-free technology for employees can be combined with bar-code badges, card technologies such as Mifare® or HID® and Nedap microwave identification technology.

However, it's not the hardware but rather the software that makes AEOS unique! One of it's many features is the potential it offers for programming the behaviour of your controllers. The server contains a growing library, ranging from software components for a simple door to those for a complex entrance such as an airlock, from contact monitoring to a complete intruder detection system or virtual PLC. The appropriate software component is simply downloaded on request from the server to the controllers.

AEOS is based on the principle of decentralised intelligence. All access rights and programmed actions are defined and processed at the lowest level of the system. This means that the operation of the system and the level of security are guaranteed, regardless of the availability of the network or the availability of the server.

With AEOS, the behaviour of all components in the security management system can be adapted to meet your specific security needs. Due to the distributed intelligence within the system, tailored security procedures are easily implemented and enhanced whenever required.

How it works in practice
Biometric readers at the doors are directly connected to the AEOS door controllers. Verification is started when a registered person shows an ID card. This can be the Nedap XS card, or another type of ID card.

After presenting the card, the user has to show a Finger, Hand, Face or Iris. The biometric system processes the data within seconds and the verification result is returned to AEOS.

The result of this verification is also returned as an event message and added to the event list in the AEOS database that can be viewed in the AEOS client's screen. Just clicking on the event will show the biometric verification information. When the person is authorised, access is granted immediately.

Some biometric applications allow identification: the person does not need to show a card or type a PIN code because the biometric system searches all templates in the database for a positive match. If the matching template is found, the record number is shown as the person's ID.

When selecting the type of biometric identification that suits your environment and security demands, you need to take into account various conditions. Important factors include user convenience and accuracy as well as environment and price.

Generally, Hand and Face recognition offer higher user convenience and Finger- and Iris recognition a higher accuracy.  Iris- and Face recognition are more critical towards the environment, and Finger- and Hand recognition are in general lower priced. However making the right choice requires knowledge and experience in biometrics and access control. Nedap can help you in making the right choice. The flexible and standard biometric interface of AEOS allows a free choice of biometric technologies and easy adding or even changing biometrics.
